Cascara tea, made from the dried fruit of the coffee cherry, provides a unique, fruity flavor with notes of cranberry, hibiscus, and cherry (no, it doesn't taste like coffee!) and provides you a massive boost of antioxidants. Cascara tea actually predates coffee, and has been enjoyed for hundreds of years.
RECIPES
For tea: Steep 1-2 tbsp of Cascara in some hot water for a few minutes. Enjoy the tea hot or iced! add lemon, honey, or cinnamon for an extra zip!
for syrup: Heat 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup water, and 1/3 a cup of cascara in a sauce pan until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool before pouring through a strainer (to remove the cascara). Store in fridge for up to 4 months. Use in place of simple syrup in iced tea, baking, cocktails, and more!
After steeping, try adding the plumped cascara to baking such as muffins and cookies, or use in the garden as a source of phosphorus for your plants!
